Ms. Guo is a freshman at the Wheeler School in Providence. Throughout the years she has earned high recognition in national language exams and has been the reigning state champion of the National French Contest since seventh grade. She is an active participant in her school’s debate team and biomedical club and has had the honor of being elected to the school senate. She is also a student ambassador. In addition to academics and ballet, Ms. Guo is heavily invested in the fine arts. For the past nine years she has studied under Jo Ann Wilkes and has recently been accepted into the prestigious Studio Art program at her school. As a hobby, she played piano for ten years and enjoys acting, traveling, and immersing herself in different cultures: she spends each summer in China visiting the country and family. Ms. Guo is also an avid skier.
Ms. Guo has been dancing since the age of five, when she began taking ballet lessons at Rhode Island Ballet Art’s Academy, where she continues to study today. Throughout the years she has attended several of Festival Ballet’s Summer Intensive programs and has had the brief opportunity to study under a teacher in Beijing. She joined Rhode Island’s ballet theatre when she was nine years old and since then has been featured in several major roles such as Madeline in the company’s rendition of the story Madeline and Clara in the miniature Nutcracker during her six seasons with the company. Ms. Guo’s repertoire includes dances of a variety of styles ranging from contemporary to jazz to classical ballet, a few being Drummin’, Earth, Stravinsky Variations, Debut, Ever After, Baba Yetu, Kaeritai, and various pieces in the Nutcracker including Waltz of the Flowers, the Chinese solo, and Mirilitons. She has also performed multiple times with the school alongside the North Kingstown Community Chorus. Ms. Guo has enjoyed her time with RIbt very much and looks forward to continuing to expand her artistic perspective and technical skills with the company in the future.
