RIbt Awarded RI CHARG Grant

Rhode Island’s ballet theatre (RIbt), a pre-professional ballet training company for young dancers launched almost 25 years ago but has been dormant since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.   With dance studio shutdowns and closed performance theaters, the company suspended operations.  Now that younger people are eligible for vaccination, dancers should be returning to regular training in greater numbers.  As a result, RIbt is planning to resume normal operations in 2022 and is especially pleased to announce receipt of an arts support grant from the State of Rhode Island.

RIbt was selected by the Rhode Island State Council on the Arts (RISCA) for a grant as part of the Rhode Island Culture, Humanities, and Arts Recovery Grant (RI CHARG) program, a collaborative grant program of the RI Council for the Humanities and RISCA. In the award letter RISCA acknowledged RIbt’s cultural contributions to the state and hoped that the award would help to sustain the organization’s mission and work.

Founded by Artistic Director, Nancy McAuliffe, the company will be conducting dancer training at RI Ballet Arts Academy in North Kingstown.  There will be an audition in early January, following the holidays, to re-instate former members and accept new members. The audition date will be announced soon.  Dancers from any studio, ages 9-18 with classical training, are eligible to audition.  More info can be found on the company website www.RIballet.org.

As a member, dancers receive weekly training focusing on developing skills associated with stage performance and learning choreography. Other opportunities include occasional master classes with accomplished ballet professionals, dance field trips and especially performing opportunities, with costumes provided by the company.
