RIbt Collaboration with IMC

RIbt is collaborating this fall with Island Moving Company (IMC) in the production of Alice in Wonderland.  This children’s ballet was originally created by Nancy McAuliffe and has been in the RIbt repertoire for many years. The classic story of Alice In Wonderland has a music score by Dimitri Shostakovich and, in addition to Nancy’s original choreography, has new dances created by Miki Ohlsen and Danielle Genest. It is also the first dance production in the  Newport Congregational Church, which has been renovated as a new arts performance space in Newport.

Performance dates and times for Alice in Wonderland are October 17-18 at 4:30pm, October 19 at 3:00pm and October 20 at 1:00pm and 3:00pm. The performances are intended for children 3 and up and run one hour with no intermission. All tickets are $30.  The Newport Congregational Church is at 73 Pelham Street in Newport.

RIbt dancers will also be performing in IMC’s Nutcracker at Rosecliff in Newport.   These are wonderful performance  opportunities for our young dancers.

20th Anniversary Gala Celebration!

ribt-logo-20-years

The 2017 holiday performance will be followed up with a 20th Anniversary Gala Fundraiser Celebration. The holiday performance at Newport’s Casino Theatre will feature the signature storybook ballet, “Madeline”, as well as “Nutcracker” variations. As a training company the focus remains on the stage performance of the young dancers, in a professional setting.

Artistic Director Nancy McAuliffe is amazed at how quickly the time has passed since the launch of Rhode Island’s ballet theatre. “Time has certainly flown, but I’m proud that RIbt has been able to provide the stage performance training and professional settings for young dancers for all these years. I’m very much looking forward to seeing some of the alumni back at the evening Celebration.”

The evening Gala Fundraiser Celebration will follow the Sunday afternoon matinee, with box office ticket options for the Show performance and/or the Gala event.  The Box Office will be active for ticket sales starting on 1 November. Tickets are available to the general public as well as the families, friends and former dancers.

RIbt Dancers Busy in April!

Rhode Island’s ballet theatre (RIbt) dancers will be busy in April, with a number of dance performances.  Starting with the First Light Funeral on April 14th at the Newport Art Museum, the dancers will be performing as part of the Newport Arboretum organization’s tribute to Newport Beeches by the first night Lighting of the Beeches, starting at the Newport Art Museum.  The event will include a celebratory New Orleans style funeral party for the Newport Art Museum’s beloved European Fernleaf Beech.

Next they will perform on 24 April at the Bellevue House in Newport as part of a Garden and Ballet Event featured in Newport’s week long (April 16-24) Daffodil Days.  Then they follow on 28 April by a solo performance by Madeline Kment at the Newport Art Museum as part of the Newport County’s Arts and Cultural Alliance (ACA) Annual Meeting, which will include performances by talented young artists. Finally RIbt dancers will perform with the North Kingstown Community Chorus in their Spring Concert series, on 30 April and 1 May.

Artistic Director Nancy McAuliffe says, “If you’re a dancer, you dance!   You dance in all sorts of venues, not just on the stage.  From these events our dancers will get good experiences in the variety of ways the dancer needs to connect with the audience.”

Rhode Island’s ballet theatre (RIbt) is a non-profit pre-professional training company for the region’s 9-18 year old ballet dancers. The Company holds class and rehearsals on Thursday evenings. Call 401-847-5301 for more information or visit RIbt’s website  www.riballet.org.

Another Collaboration with South Kingstown High School Orchestra

This season RIbt dancers will again collaborate with the South Kingstown High School Orchestra in a combined performance. This was originally proposed by Don Smith, Director of Instrumental Music, at South Kingstown High School, in 2013.  The combined holiday performance was a wonderful experience for dancers and musicians alike and Don Smith requested another collaboration performance for the fall of 2014.  Dates and performance programs are being worked out.
